Recently, Stephanie, our son Race, and Wildlifers employee Alan Watson attended George Strait’s concert to benefit those devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Along with George, there was Chris Stapleton, Miranda Lambert, Lyle Lovett, and Robert Earl Keen. Stephanie is a huge Miranda Lambert fan so when I heard that George was going to have Miranda there I began my search for tickets. Aside from wanting to take Stephanie to see these artists that she loves so much the money spent on tickets was all going to those who have lost everything. The combination of these two reasons made the decision to go very easy. The venue for this event was in the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, Texas which has a great deal of history behind it. The theatre opened its doors in 1929 due to some deed restrictions and has been going strong ever since. It is truly a beautiful place and one that if given the chance, everyone that is in San Antonio should visit. Our seats were on the fifth row so we were right in the face of the entertainers. The show opened with Robert Earl King and Lyle Lovett coming out to do a couple of songs popular in Texas. Shortly there after Matthew McConaughey made a short speech as to the importance of donating to those in need. From there George started playing and did duets with each of the other artists. George and the other artists would do two songs and then George would walk off of stage and the other would stay on for two songs. The show began at 7:00PM and ended at 10:30PM. It isn’t often that one goes to a concert and gets to see super stars like this just play an acoustic guitar and no band backing them up. At this concert we had the opportunity to see George Strait, Chris Stapleton, and Miranda Lambert do a song with no band backing them up, it was truly amazing. Suffice it to say that we all had a wonderful time and the concert was aired on several networks, social media platforms, and the radio. I haven’t heard how much money they raised but it will prove to be a significant amount.
